SPG load break switches, used in an overhead distribution network permit reliable long life manual or automatic feeder switching.
The SPG is a 3 phase load break switch designed for overhead power distribution networks up to 38kV. The hermetically sealed lifetime maintenance free unit is fast, accurate and reliable.
The load break switch can be manually operated or motorized for sectionalizing, automation and remote control to suit your system configuration and operating requirements.
Safety
- Full load switching and high fault current rating
- A Safety Bursting Membrane releases overpressure gas safely from the tank at a pressure of 4-6kgf/cm2
- Insulation Coordination is designed to first flashover externally. The next flashover is internal, and the last insulation element to puncture is the bushings
- Highly visible ON/OFF Position Indicator connected to the main drive shaft can be easily checked from ground level
Performance
- Smart Grid Ready: Optional SCADA interface with standard protocols.
- Fast and Accurate: 3 Integrated Current Transformers and 6 Resistive Voltage Sensors inside the tank. World First Resistive Voltage Sensors with an accuracy of ¡ 0.5% ensure superior accuracy (traditional capacitive sensors have only ¡ 3% accuracy)
- Solenoid and Dual Latch Mechanism: Opens in less than 25ms; clears in less than 2.7 cycles; mechanical trip free; anti-pumping characteristics.
Reliability
- Field Proven Vacuum Interrupters ensure long and safe operating life
- Powder coated Stainless Steel Tank: TIG welded and EPDM double sealed to ensure the recloser is maintenance free and SF6 Gas tight for life. Leakage rate is less than 0.2% per year
- Horizontal Bushings: Superior insulation capability and better short circuit characteristics than vertical bushings. It is easier to pole mount the recloser as line post insulators are not necessary
- Unique Field Proven Puffer and Heavy duty Tulip-Shaped Contacts with arc resistant Cu-W tips ensure arc-extinguishing in less than 0.5 cycles at more than 400 times load current capacity
- No plastic material between open contacts, so there is no possibility of contamination of SF6 gas and consequent tank insulation degradation
- Simple, reliable and robust spring toggle mechanism opens and closes quickly with low tripping energy and is independent of operator handling power or speed. Switch operation less than 0.7 sec when operated by motor.
Options:
SPG-INT Load Break Switch - Motorised control and SCADA
The SPG-INT load break switch integrates 3 current transformers and 6 voltage sensors inside the tank. A simple robust and reliable motor mechanism is enclosed in a stainless steel box welded underneath the main switch tank. A Lead Acid Battery provides DC power to the control circuit board in case of AC power source failure. The batteries have sufficient capacity to sustain more than 24 hour operation without AC power
